A pleasant stay at NH Hotel Schiphol Airport

We stayed at NH Hotel Schiphol Airport in November and again a few weeks ago. Despite the restrictions we liked our stay. The hotel is only 6 kilometers (3.73 miles) from Schiphol Airport and 20 kilometers (12.43 miles) from the city center of Amsterdam. So a perfect base for exploring Amsterdam and its surroundings.

Note that not everything mentioned is now offered, due to the current restrictions. See here our tips for traveling right now.

This is not a sponsored post, we stayed here at our own expense. So all opinions are, as always, our own.

The room(s) at NH Hotel Schiphol Airport

NH Hotel Amsterdam Schiphol Airport has 419 rooms, divided over 7 different types of rooms. All rooms offer a wooden desk, free Wifi, a flatscreen-tv and coffee and tea facilities. The superior XL rooms also have a couch and minibar. The suite has a separate dining area with a dining table. All the rooms are spacy, comfortable, have natural light and are sound proofed. An extra bed is possible in the rooms, so is adjoining rooms (excluded the suite).

The first time we had a standard room with a twin bed, on our second visit a Superior XL tripe room. Other rooms are the standard triple room, superior room with a twin bed or kingsize, superior tripe room, superior XL room with a twin bed or kingsize and a suite for 4 persons.

Our Room

The standard room, during our first visit, was comfortable. It’s got a desk, coffeemaker, electric kettle, flatscreen-tv, an armchair and 2 closets. The bathroom had an open shower, hair blower, toilet, washing basin and toiletries. Our bathroom was suitable for handicapped people. The room is for up to 3 persons, the 3 of us stayed here and they placed an extra bed for Yuri in the room. It didn’t make the room feel cramped, but it was in front of our closet, which we didn’t mind.

Roomservice is available 24/7. There’s airconditiong/climate control in the rooms. The hotel is 100% non-smoking. Check-in is from 3pm and up, check-out is till 12pm (Lazy Sunday till 5pm).

The Superior XL room, during our second visit, was even more comfortable and spacious. It’s got a desk, a closet, a couch (that can be turned into a 2-person bed), a coffee table, a minibar, a flatscreen-tv, an armchair, a coffee maker and electric kettle. The bathroom had a bath, a walk-in shower, toilet, washing basin, toiletries and hair blower.

The Restaurant

NH Hotel Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has 2 restaurants and a bar on site. There’s the Greenhouse, an à-la-carte restaurant, housed in a typical Dutch greenhouse. It serves dishes with veggies from the region.

Then there’s the restaurant/bar The Meeting Point for more informal get togethers. Suited for lunches, dinners, snacks and drinks. We had dinner here with a 3-course meal. Starting with a tuna salad, salmon for Paul and steak for me. As a dessert we had a cheese plate. The next day we had lunch here with bitterballen, club sandwich and a twaalf-uurtje.

Next to this there’s restaurant Gusto with international cuisine.

The Breakfast

The breakfast buffet was delicious and served in the Greenhouse. The buffet was grandly displayed and had lots of choice. There was a large selection of both cold and hot dishes. Fresh buns, mini croissants, pastries, cereal and so on. Upon request an omelet was made for you.

We had to reserve a time lock up front, so to space out the guests present at the breakfast. The second time we visited dining in the restaurants wasn’t possible, due to the current restrictions.

Other Facilities

There are many other facilities like a small indoor swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, fitness area, squash room, self-service store, a small store with souvenirs, an outside tennis court and 16 multifunctional conference rooms.

They have their own parking lot with an electrical hook-up for cars. It’s paid parking at €1.50 an hour, the first 15 minutes are for free, and it’s up to €17.50 a day. There’s an option for free parking or breakfast with your room. The first time we opted for the free breakfast, the second time for free parking.

The only thing about the hotel we were less enthusiastic about, was the quality of the Wifi. They have free Wifi and Premium Wifi. The latter you have to pay for. The quality of the Premium Wifi wasn’t fantastic either. They handled our complaint about this well. The staff of the hotel was friendly. The second time the Wifi was a little bit better, but still not great.

The NH Hotel Schiphol Airport shuttle is free of charge for hotel guests. The shuttle runs between the airport and the hotel and between the hotel and offices in Beukenhorst and Schiphol Rijk.

The hotel has a Green Key certificate, a worldwide recognized certificate in tourism. The lounge/reception area has stylish, but comfortable couches set up. Which we loved sitting on with a good book.

In the Area

On only 10 minutes driving distance is the Haarlemmermeerse forest and the flower auction from Aalsmeer. 7 Minutes driving away is Schiphol Airport where there’s a viewing desk to watch the planes and you can make a behind the scenes tour.

Amsterdam is close by and has many sights, like the Rijksmuseum, the Anne Frank house and the Van Gogh museum.

In short a stay at NH Hotel Schiphol Airport is a great experience

We enjoyed both our stays at the hotel. It’s a perfect hotel to include on road trips. On the blog are also reviews from Van der Valk Hotel Ridderkerk, Fletcher Hotel Restaurant Zeeduin and Van der Valk Hotel Tiel.
