A Luxurious stay at the Van der Valk hotel Ridderkerk
Macarons for breakfast, a comfy bed and friendly staff is what the Van der Valk hotel Ridderkerk offers. But these aren’t the only reasons to stay at the hotel, it’s also just 17 minutes away from the world famous windmills from Kinderdijk. We enjoyed a stay at this hotel on a road trip in 2018 and loved it.
Note that not everything mentioned is now offered, due to the pandemic.
This is not a sponsored post, we stayed here on our own expense. So all opinions are, as always, our own.
The Room at Van der Valk hotel Ridderkerk
Van der Valk hotel Rotterdam Ridderkerk has 7 types of rooms. We had an Atrium room, but there are also an executive room, a one-person room, a special needs room, junior suite, executive suite and a superior suite. The hotel has 140 rooms in total.
The smoke-free Atrium room we had was comfortable. It’s got a desk, a safe, plenty of closet space, a television, a small fridge, free wifi, a twin bed, a telephone, a coffee maker, 2 comfy chairs with a coffee table and climate control. The bathroom had a bath, separate shower, hair blower, toilet washing basin and small tubes of shampoo and lotion. The room can be occupied with up to 3 people, we stayed there with the 3 of us and they placed an extra bed in the room for Yuri. The room was spacious enough not to make it cramped. With the room comes free parking.
No pets are allowed. Check-in is from 2pm and up, check-out is till 11am.
Other Rooms
The Executive room is on the top floor and has a whirlpool, ironing, minbar and a flatscreen tv (extra).
The Junior Suite is luxurious with a 2 person whirlpool, flatscreen and rain shower in the bathroom.
The Executive Suite has a steam shower. Next to a bathroom and sleeping area, it has a separate living area with a 4-person conference table.
We slept well in our beds and enjoyed the shower the next morning. Paul was in a wheelchair at the moment due to an accident, and the rooms were easily reachable.
The Restaurant
Van der Valk hotel Ridderkerk Rotterdam has an on-site restaurant with international and national dishes. We dined here and the food was delicious. The chicken ragout pastry was perfect, the boys both had a vegetable soup as a starter. As a main course we had veal liver (Paul), a schnitzel and for Yuri a pizza margarita. As a dessert we had delicious blackberry cheesecake, lemon meringue pie and ice cream.
There’s live cooking outside the school vacations in the weekends. You can see them cook the food, while enjoying it. The restaurant has a spacious terrace.
Yuri had the kids menu and it was served on fun plates. Next to a special kids menu at dinner, the restaurant serves afternoon tea, high wine, lunch and breakfast.
The Breakfast
Well, the breakfast buffet had macarons on offer. Enough said. Since we love macarons and they’re such a luxurious cookie, this gave an extra touch to the breakfast. The buffet was really excellent, with lots of choice in products, grandly displayed. There were a lot of tables to sit down at, enough for the many people staying, which were plenty.
Macarons weren’t the only thing available, there was a large selection of hot and cold dishes. Fresh buns, scrambled eggs, yogurt, fruit, croissants, donuts, cheeses and so on.
Other Facilities
Van der Valk hotel Ridderkerk Netherlands has many other facilities. Like a hotelbar, fitness cubes, its own parking lot with an electrical hook up for cars, a spacious terrace, bike rental service and a dry cleaning service. The hotel is close to freeway A15, which is convenient when on a road trip or when using it as a stopover hotel on the way South. Sadly the hotel doesn’t have a swimming pool. The design of the hotel is really cool. Where the Atrium rooms are, the hallway is open, spacious and symmetrically formed.
The hotel offers several arrangements for guests to book with their stay. For example with dinner included or 3 for 2 nights. The Golden Green Key has been given to the hotel, which ensures that your stay is sustainable.
Meetings, weddings and large parties are possible in normal times in one of the 16 multifunctional conference rooms. There’s a terrace and garden available for outside parties.
An example of the friendliness of the staff and helpfulness, is that we left a stuffed animal in our room and they kept it safe for us, until we could pick it up again 4 days later.
In the Area
Kinderdijk isn’t the only thing to do in the area. It can be reached by waterbus. Hiking, biking and kayaking are perfect options in the surroundings. Blijdorp Zoo and National Park De Biesbosch are also close. Both are 2 national treasures. Rotterdam with its Erasmusbridge, Euromast, many museums and Plaswijckpark is just 16 minutes away. The hotel is also perfect as a base for 25 things to do in Zeeland, the flower route, to visit a few of the forts on our European Fortresses list or to visit the Delta Works.
In short you can’t go wrong with a stay at Van der Valk hotel Ridderkerk
It wasn’t our first stay at a Van der Valk hotel, we’ve also enjoyed staying at Van der Valk hotel Tiel and Van der Valk hotel Schiphol Airport. We also loved Fletcher Badhotel Callantsoog, Fletcher Hotel Restaurant Zeeduin, Fletcher Hotel De Zalm and Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant Carlton in the Netherlands.
