5 Things to do in the Gorges du Verdon with kids
France has so many beautiful regions to explore! A few years ago we visited the Gorges du Verdon region in spring. Our lodgings were at campsite RCN Les Collines de Castellane in the town of Castellane. The weather was warm already (most days even hot) and there is plenty to do in the Gorges du Verdon with kids. A visit to the Gorges itself is not described in this article. We planned that for the last day of our trip, but since rain was predicted, we weren’t in for a day out on the water. So no Gorges, but a visit to grottes and Grasse that day. Things to see…

An afternoon in Ljubljana
We loved Ljubljana, the city has a laid-back vibe, and is perfect to stroll around in. That’s just what we did one afternoon in Ljubljana. We stood on a campsite on the edge of Ljubljana and took a bus to the center of town. It stopped right in front of our campsite and went all the way to the center of town, very easy. Here’s what is perfect to do when you stroll around Ljubljana one afternoon. Stroll around the center The city center with it’s broad, low traffic avenues is perfect for wandering around. Watch and enjoy the buildings still there from the Baroque and Jugendstil periods. We had…

Dreaming about long term traveling
I remember as a child looking at my globe and making up journeys I could take, where I would go. I could dream about this for hours. Others dreamed about their wedding gown or being a doctor when they’d grew up. I wanted to be an archaeologist and travel to Iran, Australia, the USA, basically everywhere. I dreamed of being in the Outback, like the characters of my favorite tv show The Flying Doctors. Go chasing those waterfalls in Australia. Wishing to explore the ruins of the Maya I read about in Archaeology books. I wanted to backpack in the National Parks of the USA, which I read about in…

Dreaming about (part-time) van life
Those idyllic pictures of people cozying up in their van or just outside their van. Or similarly a picture of a neverending highway, makes me want to hit the road and live the van life. What’s the draw in van life Why am I drawn to this picture of the van life? It’s the idylic of going wherever you wanna go. In theory, you can roadtrip around the World, and since I have a very lenghty bucketlist, that sounds divine. We would have our own place while traveling. A van looks like a payable solution to see the whole world. The cosily feeling of a VW van is appealing. The…

Campsites in Croatia with kids
In 2016 and 2017 we spent the Summer roadtripping in Europe, especially The Balkan. The first year we camped most of the time, in 2017 a little less, mainly because of the weather. In the south it was too hot to pitch a tent, let alone sleep in it with 40+ degrees Celsius temperatures. We should have brought a portable solar panel with us, we had so much sun. It would have made some things a lot easier. In 2016 it was our first time roadtripping with a tent. We did it again in 2017, you can say it’s something we love to do as a family. Why, well lot’s…

4 Winter walks in Götzens
Last Updated: 10 February 2024. Almost every year we take a winterbreak and go to a ski destination. Not to ski, but to enjoy the snowcovered landscapes. But this time we had a bit of bad luck; Yuri got a fever and couldn’t do anything. Paul and I decided to go for short walks in the area separately. One of us stayed with Yuri and the other one explored the surroundings. After lunch we switched, and the other one followed the same route. This way we made 4 beautiful winter walks near Götzens in Austria, before Yuri felt better and could go out and explore a bit with us. Mind…

A visit to the Willibrordus Abbey
Every year, a few other volunteers and I prepare youths for their confirmation. One of the things we do with them is visit a monastry, in the theme of mission. We have visited several over the years, we had a visit to the Willibrordus Abbey in Doetinchem in 2014, 2018 and 2019. We had a tour by a monk/lay brother each time. Where to go for a visit to the Willibrordus abbey The Abbey is located on Slangenburg estate, in the vincinity of Slangenburg Castle. On a winding gravel road you arrive at the Willibrordus abbey. You can park in front of the abbey or at the back. The Abbey…
